Stop Night Eating: How Can You Stop Night Eating

How Can I Stop Night Eating Habits

Late night eating is a struggle for nearly every dieter.  Recently we took a poll from women over 40 and wanted to know how they have been able to stop night eating habits.  Further down I will offer you some of the tips that these women have used to help them lose weight.  First, it is important to understand the effects that eating late at night has on your diet and your ability to lose weight.

Common Problems With Stop Night Eating

As women over 40, your days are likely filled with a number of activities, after dinner is your time to relax.  For most of us that after dinner relaxation involves sitting in front of the television and watching our favorite programs.  Many of the women over 40 who were poled indicated that this after dinner television watching was when they did most of their late night eating.  Part of the reason that many women find it difficult to stop night eating is because they eat so little during the day.  Your diet likely calls for a strict calorie limit, and unfortunately most diets go too far when they restrict calories.  If you have been consuming 2500 calories or more and then one day start a diet that limits you to less than 1500 calories, your body is going to need some time to adjust to that change.  Sure if you can stick with that diet for the long term you will lose weight.  The problem arises from the fact that your body has not had enough time to adjust to this drastic change and by the early evening hours, it is craving the calories it has been deprived of all day long.  A crash diet will not help you stop night eating; in fact, it will likely make the problem worse.

Stop Night Eating- The Main Reason it’s Hard

The number one response women over 40 gave when it came to why they eat late at night was because they were hungry.  That makes sense, but the reason these women were hungry was that they had consumed so few calories during the rest of the day.  Again, reducing your calorie intake is the only way you will lose weight, but you need to reduce your calorie intake gradually over time.  One thing that can help you stop night eating is to make sure that you eat 3 real meals throughout the day and supplement those meals with 1 to 2 snacks. By eating more often, you can reduce the cravings that your body will have throughout the entire day.

A Trick to Stop Night Eating

If you still find that you are hungry late at night another trick is to consume 2 or more cups of water.  You already know that water will help you lose weight because it helps your body function more efficiently.  Many women over 40 also stated that drinking water filled their stomach and made it easier to for them to stop night eating habits they had developed.

Another Unique Suggestion to Stop Night Eating

Probably the most unique suggestion that came from women over 40 was to brush your teeth to stop night eating.  On the surface, it sounds somewhat silly, but in reality, there are reasons why it could work.  The most logical reason brushing your teeth may be able to help you avoid the late night snacks and ultimately lose weight is because most of us are not used to eating for a period of time after brushing out teeth.  All of our lives we have been taught to brush after meals, so the act of brushing our teeth tells our body that we will not be eating for a while.  Many women have reported this to be an effective method in their journey to stop night eating.

If you have struggled to lose weight and feel like your night eating activities are partly to blame, you are not alone.  Many women over 40 suffer from the same difficulties.  Try some of the suggestions above to help you stop night eating and watch how much faster the pounds fall off.
